Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Brookman Primary School web site and what we hope will be an excellent educational experience for you. Whether you are already a member of our school community, a family wishing to enrol at Brookman Primary, or browsing out of curiosity, I hope the information offered assists you to learn more about our wonderful school.
Reading through our website you will find detailed information about the programs we have developed to meet the needs of our students. We are proud of the respectful, inclusive and happy learning environment that we have established to support all students in their learning.
Our multi-cultural campus draws students from over forty language backgrounds and provides extraordinary opportunities for students to learn from each other and gain an understanding of the values associated with the numerous cultures the school supports.
We at Brookman pride ourselves in providing positive learning experiences for our students. Our school offers a number of additional opportunities for our students to enjoy their time at school. Staff volunteer their time to run activities during lunchtimes. These include a huge variety of fun learning activities such as cooking classes, a science club, chess club, mathletics club, lunchtime library games, football, soccer, netball and touch rugby competitions and gardening club. These fun activities allow children to be engaged in learning opportunities which build on their social and emotional development.
Additionally, sporting activities are offered through faction sport, Interschool sport and the Active After Schools Program. Drama and Music have been added to our learning program with the school choir performing in major state musical performances. The Visual Arts Program presented by our Visual Arts specialist teacher allows students to develop their artistic strengths. Our annual Edu-Dance performance has become enormously popular with students, parents and the wider community.
These numerous activities, combined with our strong pastoral care program make for a safe, enjoyable play and learning environment.
Communication technologies are of a high standard throughout the school with all classrooms having interactive whiteboards. Information communication technology continues through the school through accessibility to our wireless technology, the provision of a dedicated computer laboratory and through the use of ‘tablets’ to support literacy and numeracy learning programs.
Our highly trained non-teaching support staff bring a range of quality skills which are utilized to assist students with special needs, work in small groups and on specific learning programs geared to meet individual learning styles.
Teachers form one of our best assets and work closely with support staff to provide tailored learning programs for students. Specialised support in the key areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Science ensure our students are offered learning programs supporting their needs and achievement levels.
Students with English as an Additional Language are supported by two teachers specifically trained in supporting students along with three education assistants who bring their own skill set to the school. Several staff speak additional languages including Cantonese, Mandarin, Burmese and Karen. This is of great assistance for students settling in to our school life from other nations.
Each year the school builds on its strengths and works towards ongoing improvement. We welcome new families, confident they will fit in and add their own value in some small way to the living history of the school. We look forward to you joining us.
On behalf of our students and staff, I extend an invitation to you to visit our school and learn more about what makes Brookman Primary School a special place for learning and teaching.
